Dr. Jill Biden said that President Trump’s attacks against her family show that he is “afraid” to face her husband in the general election.
Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday morning, Biden, 68, said that although she expected there to be scrutiny and criticism from the president, she was surprised that it would have evolved to the point where Trump is being impeached over accusations that he leveraged military aid to Ukraine in order to dig up dirt on the Bidens.
“We knew it was going to be tough. Our family knew it was going to be tough,” Biden said. “But we never could have imagined that it would turn into, that Donald Trump would be asking a foreign government to get involved in our elections.”
“And I think, you know, Donald Trump has shown us who he is. And this has been a real distraction. And I think it just proves that he’s afraid to run against my husband Joe Biden,” she added.
Biden was also questioned about accusations from Trump that the Biden family was in involved corruption related to Hunter’s lucrative position on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. Jill Biden said that her son committed no wrongdoing.
“I know my son. I know my son’s character. Hunter did nothing wrong. And that’s the bottom line,” she said.
When asked about the viral encounter where her husband confronted an 83-year-old voter in Iowa who had questions about Hunter and called him a “damn liar,” Jill Biden said that it showed his “tenacity and resilience.”
“I think any parent who is watching this show knows that if anyone attacked their son or daughter, I mean, you don’t just sit down and take it. You fight for your kid,” she said. “And I think that just shows, you know, Joe is going to stand up to bullies, and bullies like Donald Trump.”
