New Delhi: India became a free country at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1957. To commemorate India's 74th Independence Day, Google displayed a beautiful doodle that captures the diversity of the country. The Google Doodle for India's Independence Day 2020 features several iconic Indian folk instruments, including the tutari, shehnai, dhol, veena, sarangi and bansuri. It also captures the essence of various Indian art forms.

From versatile double-reeded shehnai to the resonant stringed sarangi, these instruments celebrate India’s rich musical legacy which dates to more than 6,000 years.

The doodle has been illustrated by Mumbai-based artist  Sachin Ghanekar. Through this doodle, Ghanekar wishes to convey the idea of India's rich heritage to all citizens.

"At a philosophical level, my inspiration was the diversity of this country. This rich cultural fabric meticulously woven together always amazes me. For the execution of the Doodle, I included various musical instruments, drawing inspiration from various Indian art forms like Kalamkari, Madhubani, Warli, Gond, Phad, and Pichwai to bring this idea to life," Ghanekar was quoted as saying by Google about his inspiration for the artwork.

The artist also shared what Independence Day means to him personally. "Independence Day is a matter of pride for every citizen, and for me as an artist, it signifies the freedom to express your ideas, views, thoughts and opinions. I owe my freedom to all those who dreamt of it and fought for it," he said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the Indian flag at Red Fort and address the nation to mark the occasion of India's 74th Independence Day. The main highlight of PM's Independence Day address was Atmanirbhar Bharat.
