Michelle Obama tells Greta Thunberg 'don’t let anyone dim your light' after Trump's tweet

Michelle Obama is standing up for 16-year-old environmental activist Greta Thunberg after President Donald Trump mocked the teen Thursday for being named Time magazine's Person of The Year.

"So ridiculous," Trump said on Twitter. "Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!"

The former first lady had words of wisdom to share with Thunberg and took to Twitter to share her support. 

".@GretaThunberg, don’t let anyone dim your light. Like the girls I’ve met in Vietnam and all over the world, you have so much to offer us all. Ignore the doubters and know that millions of people are cheering you on," Obama tweeted early Friday. 

Thunberg has seen an outpouring of praise and support since she earned the coveted title from Time. 

Leonardo DiCaprio posted a video on Instagram of Thunberg and congratulated her on the honor, including Time's description of why she was selected. Actress Alyssa Milano, meanwhile, bashed Trump for his reaction. 

"What kind of grown man decides to write this tweet and then send it? What kind of President tells a child to chill when she’s trying to save the planet? And maybe most importantly, who still supports this man? #LeaveGretaAlone," she tweeted. 

Bette Midler took the opportunity to call out the current first lady, Melania Trump, over "the hypocrisy" of her Be Best anti-bullying initiative after her husband's tweet. 

"... Her husband's bullying Ms. Thunberg, a child, seems to have gone unnoticed by her 'team,' and by extension, by Melania herself," she tweeted.

Following Trump's Wednesday criticism, Thunberg responded swiftly, changing her Twitter profile to read: "A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend."

It's not the first time the president has taken issue with the teen. 

Trump mocked Thunberg back in September, when both were in New York City for meetings at the United Nations.

Citing lines from Thunberg's address to the Climate Action Summit – the teenager said "people are dying" and "we are in the beginning of a mass extinction" – Trump issued a late-night snarky tweet.

"She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future," Trump wrote. "'So nice to see!"
