Meerut man who announced Rs 51 lakh bounty on Karnataka MLA RA Srinivasmurthy's nephew booked

Meerut: A former Samajwadi Party youth leader, who announced Rs 51 lakh bounty on Karnataka MLA R Akhanda Srinivasmurthy's nephew over alleged derogatory Facebook post, has been booked by Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday. 

 The man has been identified as Shahzeb Rizvi, who is a resident of Falawada town in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. 

Falawada town police have charged the man under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including promoting enmity between two groups.

"We have booked the accused under Sections 153a (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race), and 505 (2) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). There is no arrest yet in the case as the accused is absconding. We will soon arrest him," Manish Bisht, Station House Officer (SHO) Falawada police station told Mirror Now Digital. 

Shahzeb Rizvi is a native of Rasoolpur village in Falawda and was earlier associated with the Samajwadi Party as state secretary of minority cell. 

Earlier, Meerut Superintendent of Police (Rural) Avinash Pandey said strict action will be taken against the man for allegedly trying to disturb communal harmony. 

"We have taken note of the man's video. A case has been registered against him for allegedly trying to disturb communal harmony and stern action will be taken," said Avinash Pandey, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Meerut.

A video of the man surfaced on Thursday where he said that anyone who gets him the head of Naveen will be offered Rs 51 lakh.

On Tuesday night, violence erupted in Karnataka capital Bengaluru after an alleged provocative social media post by Naveen, nephew of Karnataka MLA R Akhanda Srinivasmurthy. Three people were killed in police firing clashes broke out in parts of the Bengaluru after the alleged post.

According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner, the accused Naveen has been arrested "for sharing derogatory post" on Facebook.
