One of the groups responsible for making sure our justice system is working is not working today.

The Juvenile Justice Oversight Commission is sitting idle, waiting for the green light from Governor Sisolak.

In June, the group found some things that were concerning. They wanted more information from the state on the treatment of young inmates at state detention centers, and they had a $7 million question.

Two years ago, the state and county invested millions into a new computer program that would help track juveniles in the system, which we still don't know. That computer program is still not completely up and running.

The commission wanted to bring the company in charge, Tyler Technologies, in and sit them down on record.

That meeting never happened. No meeting has. All of the meetings after June were canceled.

Members who spoke to us off record tell us they are waiting for Governor Steve Sisolak to appoint new members. Without that, they are idle.

We asked Governor Sisolak for comment, a representative of his office told us this: “The Governor continues to receive and review applications and looks forward to finalizing appointments in the near future.”
