Montana Gov. Steve Bullock has been called the best-kept secret in the crowded field of contenders for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, and he told Sinclair chief political correspondent Scott Thuman he has a strong track record of appealing to voters who might otherwise support President Donald Trump.

“Look, I was the only Democrat in the country to get reelected in a state where Donald Trump won. He took Montana by 20 in 2016," Bullock said. "I won by four.”

In the latest installment of Sinclair "Campaign Conversations" series, Bullock expressed concerns that many of his Democratic competitors are drifting too far to the left on issues like immigration, health care, and education.

“Folks that I talk to don’t want free everything. What they want is a fair shot,” he said.

Bullock did not meet the Democratic National Committee's requirements to participate in Tuesday night's presidential primary debate, but the avid marathon-runner told Thuman he's committed to the race at least through the Iowa caucuses in February.

“We’re four months away from any voter expression of preference and I’m gonna be there every step of the way,” Bullock said.
