Preliminary 5.5 magnitude earthquake felt in Las Vegas

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake could be felt in Las Vegas, originating about 14 miles outside of Ridgecrest, California, roughly 180 miles west of Las Vegas.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the temblor originated around 6:30 p.m.

Nearby aftershocks were reported, coming in at around 2.5 magnitude.

Residents all over Southern Nevada told News 3 they could feel it, including in Pahrump, the west Las Vegas valley and even Mesquite.

So far, no damage has been reported as a result of the quake, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

"No reports of damage or injuries. Just the ground shook a little bit. All is well," LVFR said in a tweet.
