California-bound motorists face 17-mile backup near Primm on I-15

PRIMM, Nev. (KSNV) — 1:30 P.M. MONDAY UPDATE:

The backup of slow traffic is now 17 miles, stretching from just outside of Las Vegas all the way to Primm. Traffic is moving about 15=18 miles an hour through that stretch.

Motorists headed for Southern California are facing a slow slog home on Monday.

The Regional Transportation Commission reported at 11:10 a.m. that the backup near Primm was 9 miles.

Traffic was moving about 15 miles an hour on Interstate 15 southbound for the 9 miles into Primm.

An estimated 300,000 people visited the Las Vegas area for the New Year's holiday, many of them from Soutehrn California.

Another factor could be people headed to Primm to by lottery tickets as jackpots in the Mega Millions and Powerball each exceed $340 million.
