1:45 P.M. UPDATE | The backup to Primm is 17 miles.

ORIGINAL | A return trip to home, a staple of any long holiday road trip to Las Vegas, has begun.

And the road past Hoover Dam is also a bit of a slog.

The Regional Transportation Commission says an 11-mile backup was reported on southbound Interstate 15 shortly before noon Saturday.

The RTC alert says" "Travel Alert on I-15 Southbound at Nevada/California State Line, 11-mile backup, prepare for long delays."

A sigalert.com check showed traffic headed into Primm traveling about 25 mph, a figure that is expected to decrease.

Just before noon, the RTC put out this alert on Hoover Dam Bypass travel:

"Travel Alert on SR172/US-93 Southbound to Hoover Dam Visitor Center, Slow Traffic, prepare for delays, No lanes affected."

Delays may get longer today and possibly Sunday as tens of thousands leave Southern Nevada to drive home.
