GUWAHATI: In a heinous act a retired engineer was murdered by unknown assailants on Tuesday night in Dispur, Guwahati.

The deceased Paresh Chandra Baruah who was a resident of House Number 20, Dispur Law College road was found dead inside his home with multiple wounds.

According to reports at around 9 p.m. Paresh Chandra Baruah’s wife Garima Saikia Baruah who is a physician by profession tried calling his number many times. When there was no response from her husband’s phone she rushed home immediately.

It is to be mentioned that both the sons of the deceased are living in England.

“My intuition from my previous experience is Paresh knew the assailants,” said a close friend of the deceased.

“This is a sad incident. We are trying to find out the culprits. The wife came to know about it at around 10:15 p.m. as she was in her chamber. The victim used to live on the ground floor and usually goes out to the market in the evening. We are looking for clues to understand what has happened. It will take some time as there are some vital clues like whether the criminals were waiting for him or they entered after he reached home,” said Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police, Debraj Upadhyaya.

“As the wife is in a state of shock we are only asking questions that are essential for the investigation,” added the JCP.

“Paresh Chandra Baruah was my friend and we were of the same batch in Assam Engineering College in 1974. He was a chemical engineer. The sad part is this is a high-profile area and the lapse in security is worrisome. I urge the administration to arrest the culprits immediately and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future,” said a close friend of the victim.
