Compared to last week: Combined weighted average report for Oklahoma auctions. Seven auctions reported this week: Ada, Apache, El Reno, McAlester, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Woodward. Feeder cattle and calves sold $2-$6 higher. Demand good as cattle futures traded mostly on the plus side for the week. It seems the bulls are leading the way in the markets and this led to more optimism in the market. Weather was warm and humid most of the week but fall will arrive this weekend and cooler temps along with good rains are expected. Supply included 58 percent over 600 lbs.; 39 percent heifers.

SLAUGHTER CATTLE

Slaughter cattle trade on a live and dressed basis steady with a vast majority of cattle trading late Friday afternoon. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday afternoon totaled 72,147 head. Last week's total head count was 122,306.

Federally Inspected Cattle: 657,000 head, up 3.0 percent from a year ago.

USDA'S Cattle on Feed Report

Cattle on feed as of Sept 1 totaled 11.1 million head, 106 percent of a year ago. Placements of cattle in the feedlots during August totaled 2.02 million head, 107 percent of a year ago. Cattle weighing under 600 lbs. 21 percent of the total placements; 600-700 lbs. 16 percent; 700-800 lbs. 22 percent; 800-900 lbs. were 23 percent; over 900 lbs. were 18 percent of the total placements. Marketings of fed cattle during the month of August totaled 1.98 million, 100.1 percent of a year ago. Western Cornbelt Direct Lean Hog Base Price: Weighted average price of packers bids on a carcass basis delivered to packing plants as of Friday was $56.79.

Compared to last sale Sept. 6: The sale continues to be held at the Pawnee Livestock Auction. The sale barn was packed again and demand good, especially good for kid goats and lambs. Quality average to attractive. Slaughter and feeder kids traded sharply higher. Slaughter lambs sharply higher on limited comparable weight ranges. Other classes not well tested. Quite a few producers in the audience taking home feeders to utilize their grazing abundance due to the recent rainfall. Supplies included 45 percent goats and 54 percent sheep. All classes sold by the CWT unless otherwise noted. The next sale will be on Thursday Oct. 4.
