A smoke alarm alerted a man to a house fire in northwest Oklahoma City Sunday night, and the man got out of the house safely, firefighters reported.

Oklahoma City firefighters installed the smoke alarm in the house in the 400 block of NW 48 about a year ago, a fire department spokesman said.

The man was asleep Sunday night when the alarm went off and alerted him to the blaze.

The man was not injured Sunday night.

Oklahoma City firefighters have reported 19 deaths in fires this year.

Firefighters will install smoke alarms in homes in Oklahoma City for free.
