Oklahoma City Realtor wins Good Neighbor Award

From Staff Reports
Jessica Thompson

Jessica Thompson, a real estate agent with Loxwood Realty, 5009 N Pennsylvania Ave., No. 101, won the 2018 Good Neighbor Award from the Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma for her work to revive the Classen Ten-Penn neighborhood.

Thompson, a member of the Oklahoma City Metro Association of Realtors, has educated people about federal funds available for home revitalization. The money helps owners fix their homes, show pride in ownership and increase property values in their neighborhood.

“Jessica wasn't satisfied with just waving at her neighbors," alliance Executive Director Georgie Rasco said. "She wanted to reach out and help change their lives, improve the schools and upgrade the infrastructure around them. She has literally helped bring millions of dollars' worth of development into her neighborhood.”

Thompson said she doesn't volunteer just to benefit herself.

“This award makes me feel like a good role model for my two kids,” she said. “I want to be a role model to other people, as well. When I hear of a need in the community, I answer the call.”

Thompson attributes part of her success to the Metro Association of Realtors, where she is involved in the government affairs committee and a new young professionals network group called RISE OKC.

She also serves on the housing opportunities committee for the National Association of Realtors. In 2017, she was the first Realtor from Oklahoma City named as one of the national association's 30 Under 30 winners.

“As a Realtor, I recognize the neighborhood is an extension of my home. If I complain about an issue, I'm going to do something about it,” Thompson said. “This award is affirmation that what I'm doing to help others is the right thing to do.”
