Oklahoma City man discovers that solving an IRS problem is … Attractive

Maverick Rork

Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting Firm helped an Oklahoma City taxpayer score some points with the woman of his dreams by fixing his lingering tax problem.

A 2016 survey reveals that women value security as the #1 thing they are looking for in a relationship. A close third is open communication. “As men, we tend to hold things in and deal with big issues on our own terms. However, in my experience, men who harbor an IRS problem could be unknowingly violating both of these realities and it can get us into some hot water with the women in our lives,” indicates Oklahoma City tax attorney, Travis Watkins.

What if you are heading into marriage and you have a huge IRS problem hanging over your head?

That’s exactly what happened to a Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting Firm client, reports firm principal, Travis Watkins. “He was about to get married when his fiancee discovered his tax problem. To say his future bride was not pleased is an understatement. She said essentially, ‘get it fixed or I’m calling [the wedding] off,’ and I think she meant it,” said Watkins.

The client was shocked, but he didn’t let fear immobilize him. “He faced the music and went straight to a tax resolution firm that deals with IRS collections every day,” Watkins said. He called Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting in Northwest Oklahoma City and got some help.

“The client had one good year in business, followed by several bad years, where he didn’t file returns. With no professional assistance to help him file and pay quarterly taxes, he had run up an IRS bill over $20,000.00,” Watkins said. Watkins’ firm settled the debt using the IRS’ Partial Pay Installment Agreement Program for a fixed fee.

“The Partial Pay Program works like this. We show the IRS that you don’t have enough assets to liquidate to pay the tax owed and you don’t have enough disposable income to pay off the debt with a payment plan. In my experience, these are harder to get than a regular IRS installment agreement, but easier than an Offer in Compromise (settlement),” said Watkins.

“In his case, for example, the IRS accepted $25.00 per month for the remainder of the IRS’ statute of limitations. Here, there was about 2 years left. He will pay about $600 and the case will be over, assuming he keeps filing and paying ongoing taxes in a timely manner. We’ll help him with that,” Watkins said.

“To our client’s surprise, his new wife was less angry about the tax problem than she was happy that he had ‘manned up’ and taken care of it. Dare I say, she found his take-care-of- business mentality attractive,” Watkins said.

To sum up what happened:

1. He got gut-level honest about the problem.

2. He called Oklahoma City tax professionals, Travis W. Watkins Tax Resolution & Accounting.

3. He fixed the problem for a one-time fee.

4. He’s back in the system filing and paying the IRS.
