Multiple bomb threats made in OKC Thursday
Authorities: Bomb threats across US appear to be hoax
Multiple bomb threats were made toward businesses in Oklahoma City Thursday, including at Wiley Post Airport.
More than 20 threats were made via email for locations in Oklahoma City. One of the first threats was reported about 11:45 a.m., said Capt. Bo Mathews, Oklahoma City Police Department spokesman.
None of the threats appeared credible, but Mathews said police were investigating the threats as if they were real. Officers have found nothing credible at locations searched Thursday afternoon.
City officials said the threat was not made toward the airport itself, but was sent to a business at the airport. The airport is operating normally. No threats were received at Will Rogers World Airport, officials said.
Threats have also been received in other parts of the metro, across the state and throughout the country, Mathews said.
In Edmond, five threats were reported to police Thursday afternoon.
"Our investigators are responding to each call, gathering the information and forwarding to the FBI who has opened a case and investigating," police officials wrote in a news release. "We ask that anyone who receives an email bomb threat save it and call 911 so an investigator can respond and add the information to the ongoing investigation."
A number of businesses across the country, including television stations and at least one newspaper, have reported receiving emailed threats. Some universities and government buildings in other states also reported receiving threats.
The New York City Police Department said the threats sent Thursday were meant to cause disruption and compel recipients into sending money and are not considered credible.
Some of the emails had the subject line: "Think Twice."
The Palm Beach County, Florida sheriff's office and the Boise, Idaho police said they had no reason to believe that threats made to locations in those areas were credible.
Across the country, some schools were closed early and others were evacuated because of the threats. Penn State University noticed students via a campus alert. Near Atlanta, people were ushered out of a courthouse.
