Man arrested in Oklahoma City’s latest homicide

FROM STAFF REPORTS
Phillip Cory Sanchez

Phillip Cory Sanchez was arrested Tuesday, accused in the Sunday killing of a man in southwest Oklahoma City.

Police found the body of Cesar Lopez, 33, at a home in the 500 block of SW 68.

A witness at the scene, Miranda Trevino, told officers that she and Sanchez, 31, were asleep in a bed at the home between 3 and 4 a.m. when Lopez came inside, according to a court affidavit.

Trevino said Lopez entered the bedroom armed with a frying pan and struck Sanchez on the head. Sanchez began punching Lopez and threw him to the ground.

Trevino said Sanchez continued to punch Lopez until she was able to stop him. Sanchez then left the scene.

Trevino told investigators that she checked on Lopez, who she said was breathing and had his eyes open. She said she didn't think anything was wrong with him and went back to sleep. Later that morning, Trevino discovered that Lopez was dead and called 911, according to the affidavit.

Investigators said he had visible injuries to his face.

Sanchez was held without bail on a murder complaint at the Oklahoma County jail.

Lopez's death is considered the 8th homicide for the city this year.
