Today's featured event:

Take in a musical matinee with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic’s Discovery Family Series at 2 p.m. today at the Civic Center Music Hall, 201 N Walker.

The three-concert Discovery Family Series is designed for children ages 4 to 13 and their families. Each Sunday afternoon installment features a lineup of preshow activities — a musical instrument playground, conductor's corner, hands-on art-making and more — along with the theme performance by the philharmonic's professional musicians.

The 2018-19 series continues today with a “Knights and Princesses” concert that will showcase classical music based on folklore as well as movie music from beloved films.

“Anytime they hear the orchestra playing something familiar to them, that’s an exciting thing, because they feel like they’re already in the know,” OKC Philharmonic Education Conductor Matthew Troy told in a fall interview. “It’s one of my favorite things that I do all year long. (I’m) not taking for granted that this is the first time a kid may see a live symphony orchestra. That’s a pretty amazing thing.”

Preshow activities start at 1 p.m. Ticket prices are $9. For tickets and information, go to www.okcphil.org.
