Fire damaged S Meridian Avenue motel Monday in Oklahoma City

Staff reports

Firefighters extinguished a blaze that damaged several rooms at an Oklahoma City motel Monday and forced the evacuation of guests.

Fire started on the third-floor of the Oaktree Inn & Suites about 10:30 a.m. Firefighters did not find anyone occupying the room where fire started. No injuries were reported. Two rooms sustained heavy fire damaged and other rooms were damaged by smoke and water.

The cause was under investigation Monday.

Fire Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson said about 50 firefighters responded to the blaze as smoke could be seen from downtown and a third alarm was sounded.

"They had the fire under control very quickly," Fulkerson said.
