Storms expected in Oklahoma City Wednesday

Storms expected to develop in northwest Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon will move into Oklahoma City after 4 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.

There is a 20 percent chance for storms at 4 p.m. in Oklahoma City and chances increase to 50 percent after 7 p.m. A cold front will shift winds to the north early Thursday, bringing cooler temperatures.

High wind gusts are possible in thunderstorms. Baseball-sized hail is also possible. Heavy rain is expected in southwest Oklahoma. The tornado threat is low, the weather service reported.

The Oklahoma City forecast follows:

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy with a high near 77. South wind 14 to 17 mph with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Wednesday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 7 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy with a low around 52. South wind 10 to 18 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Partly sunny with a high near 68. North wind 16 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. North, northwest wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 69. North, northwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Friday night: Clear with a low around 50.

Saturday: Sunny with a high near 79.
