Oklahoma City Ballet announces 2019-2020 season, including 'Dracula,' 'Romeo & Juliet,' OKC bombing tribute

Season tickets are on sale for Oklahoma City Ballet’s newly announced 2019-2020 season, which will include the first performances in its new Susan E. Brackett Dance Center, 6800 N Classen Blvd.

As previously reported, the upcoming season will feature five performances, including a special work honoring Oklahoma City’s transformation following the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, according to a news release.

“Our 2019-2020 season is centered on stories and powerful emotion,” Artistic Director Robert Mills said in a statement. 

The season will begin Oct. 25-27 at the Civic Center Music Hall, 201 N Walker, with Michael Pink’s "Dracula," an internationally renowned retelling of Bram Stoker's 1897 horror classic. The chilling original score by Philip Feeney will be performed live by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.

From Dec. 14-22, families and dance fans can celebrate the holiday season with Oklahoma City Ballet’s beloved festive production of "The Nutcracker." Tchaikovsky’s familiar score, performed by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and Mills’ delightful staging, will fill the Civic Center in a warm glow.

 Mills’ "Romeo & Juliet" returns Feb. 14-16 at the Civic Center, with Prokofiev’s lush, romantic score played by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. 

An add-on production for the season, "Future Voices: A Choreographic Showcase" is a creative presentation of dance brought back by Mills. Featuring works choreographed by company members and other local dance professionals, this innovative program will be staged March 13-15 in the Inasmuch Foundation Theatre at the Brackett Dance Center.

Set for April 17-19 at the Civic Center, "(e)motion(s)- A Triple Bill"will feature a world premiere ballet by Mills celebrating the resiliency of our community that fearlessly transformed itself in the aftermath of the bombing in Oklahoma City 25 years ago. "Red Sweet" from celebrated Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo and a work created exclusively for Oklahoma City Ballet dancers by American choreographer Penny Saunders will round out the triple bill.

“With imaginative stories, superb sets and costumes, live music, and incredible dancing, there is truly something for everyone in our 19-20 season,” Mills said in a statement.
