Good Company
Freshman
Hannah Leitner recorded her the first multi-assist match of her career in a 2-1 overtime win at Chicago State on Oct. 20. In doing so, Leitner became just the second freshman in program history to post a multi-assist game, joining teammate
Alexa Barrera who also accomplished the feat in a 3-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Aug. 31, 2018.
Â
Scouting the Roos
Kansas City holds a 9-3-4 record but has struggled in conference play with a record of 1-2-2 after winning the regular-season title a season ago. In its last match, KC beat Utah Valley 1-0 in Kansas City. Last season, the Aggies lost to the Roos 3-0 on the road.
Â
The Roos normally high-powered offense ranks fifth in the WAC in points (3.8*) and is tied for fourth in goals (1.44). Individually, Rylan Childers has had an impressive season as the sophomore has recorded nine goals and six assists for 24 points.
Â
Kansas City is solid on the defensive side of the ball, as it ranks in the top half of the league in most defensive categories. The Roos rank second in the league in goals allowed (14), second in goals-against average (0.83) and third in shutouts (7).
Â
Last Time Out
New Mexico State played a pair of conference matches, first hosting CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 18 before visiting Chicago State on Oct. 20. Despite needing overtime in both matches, the Aggies were able to walk away from the weekend 2-0.
Â
Against the Runners, both defenses were locked in and the two teams were tied at the end of regulation. About five minutes in to the first overtime period,
Annalise Pacheco boomed a free kick from near the midfield line that bounced in the six-yard box, hit the crossbar and found its way to
Corey Kizer who netted the golden goal.
Â
Then, against Chicago State, the Aggies found themselves down 1-0 after a 46
th minute goal from the Cougars. However, the Aggies battled back, with
Hannah Leitner using her speed to get around the outside back and find
Shea O'Connor who finished to the tie match in the 86
th minute. In overtime, Leitner again used her speed to get around the cougar defense before feeding the ball to Kizer who found Ely Gonzalez in the box. Gonzalez then finished the golden goal for a 2-1 win.
