Jessica Mendoza makes first appearance at Mets camp

PORT ST. LUCIE — Friday was Jessica Mendoza’s first time at camp since becoming a baseball operations adviser for the Mets.

The ESPN Sunday Night Baseball analyst spent much of the day chatting with general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, Callaway and other front-office members, but the team said she had lost her voice and wouldn’t be made available to the media.

Robinson Cano went deep for the first time this spring in the Mets’ 10-3 loss to the Marlins.

“That’s good, but they don’t count here,’’ Cano said with a smile. “For me, the results here don’t matter. It’s, ‘How do I feel at the plate?’”

Cano has looked good so far.

“Man, can he hit,’’ Callaway said.

“I’m not surprised, but being here with a new team, sometimes it takes time to adjust,’’ Cano said. “But they made me feel like part of the family right away.”

Carlos Gomez, who signed a minor league deal, played in an intrasquad game on Friday as the Mets try to get him work before he plays in a major league spring training game.

Edwin Diaz and Luis Avilan each pitched a scoreless inning, as both relievers continued good springs after joining the Mets.

Dominic Smith had a rough day, going 0-for-3 with an error at first base as he battles Pete Alonso — and others — for the first-base job.

Saturday’s schedule: The Mets travel to Fort Myers to visit the Red Sox, as Zack Wheeler makes his third start of the spring. Alonso, Brandon Nimmo and Tim Tebow also are expected to make the trip.
