Dick Cheney to headline high-dollar fundraiser for Donald Trump

Former vice president Dick Cheney is set to headline a high-dollar fundraiser for President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign and the Republican Party on Monday.

Cheney, who served two terms as George W. Bush’s veep, has reportedly been critical of Trump’s foreign policy behind the scenes.

But in 2016, as Trump bulldozed the party establishment on his way to the nomination, Cheney was one of the first top Republicans to come out in favor of his presidential campaign.

The former veep will appear with his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), at a luncheon in Jackson, Wyo., the Washington Post reported Saturday.

First Daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, both presidential advisers, will also attend, along with White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney.

The invitation designates all three as “special guests,” not as campaign surrogates, to avoid running afoul of a federal law prohibiting administration officials from the campaign trail.

In March, Cheney reportedly lit into Vice President Mike Pence over Trump’s Twitter habits and his wobbly support of NATO at a conservative think-tank gathering.
