Texas cyclist pushes fiancée out of way before deadly collision

A Texas cyclist pushed his fiancée out of harm’s way from a car before it struck and killed him, authorities said.

Devin Lee Custer, 27, was riding bikes with his fiancée around 7 p.m. Monday when the collision occurred in Harris County, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The couple was heading in the same direction as the vehicle driven by Jason Stewart before the crash, authorities said.

Custer, who was not wearing a helmet, was struck from behind while his fiancée avoided impact, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Devin heroically saved his fiance’s life by pushing her away from the vehicle, sacrificing his own life,” said a GoFundMe page, which was launched to raise money for his funeral expenses.

No charges have been filed, but authorities are investigating the deadly incident.
