Margaret G. Lewellyn died on May 31, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation, but the family plans an event later in the year when larger gatherings are allowed.
Margaret was born December 31, 1920 in Lacona, Iowa to Bert Sandy and Emma (Peterson) Sandy. She graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1938. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines and Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
She worked as a stenographer/typist in the district offices of Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines prior to her marriage to Marvin (Barney) Lewellyn on March 14, 1945 in that city.
Throughout her life, she treasured the love at the heart of her dear family from her two sisters and parents, her devoted husband, three children, four grandchildren and an extended family of cousins, nephews, and great-grandchildren who brought her joy and comfort throughout her life. She was blessed by friends and good neighbors through the enriching world of organizations, including Centenary United Methodist Church, Chapter BE of the PEO Sisterhood, and Thursday Reading Club. She appreciated 12 great years of independent living at Oak Terrace West and is grateful to the caring and efficient staff, the sunny comfortable apartment, and the many friendships she enjoyed while there.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Mark Lewellyn (Mary Fox) of Alexandria, Virginia; two daughters, Sandra Lewellyn of Ashland, Oregon and Janet Taylor (Patrick) of Stewartville, Minnesota. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Karen (Aaron) Carlock of Black Earth, Wisconsin and Colleen (Alex) Manning of Racine, Wisconsin; and two grandsons, Alec Lewellyn (Carly Ross) of New York City and Conor (Christine) Lewellyn of Silver Spring, Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Maya, Madeline, and Maxwell Carlock and Camden Manning; a sister, Betty Libby of Iowa City, Iowa; four nephews, Bob (Vicki) Roy of Burnsville, Minnesota, James (Debbie) Roy of Mankato, Minnesota, Richard (Sandy) Libby of Clinton, Iowa, and Steve (Sharon) Libby of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Preceding her in death was her husband of 65 years, Barney; a sister, Pauline Felch; and her parents.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
Tree Planting Timeline
