Bhubaneswar: Armed miscreants allegedly looted gold jewelleries and other valuables from a house at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar yesterday night after tying up the inhabitants.

As per the reports, the burglars ransacked the house of one Suranjita Rana in Kanan Vihar and looted around 250 grams of gold jewellery and other valuable items from the house.

Suranjita Rana alleged “At around 2:45-3:00 AM, as many as 12-15 burglars broke into the house with swords and daggers and attacked my family members including my elderly in-laws and injured them severely. I was also thrashed. One of the miscreants held my infant child on knife point and threatened me to handover the ornaments.”

“They looted Rs 1 lakh cash and the gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh,” she added.

Another family member and Suranjita's mother-in-law, Premalata Das alleged “The burglars dragged us to a corner of a room and tied us up before looting the valuables. It was difficult to identify the miscreants as they were masked.”

“Based on a complaint filed by the family, a case has been registered at the Chandrasekharpur police station. Statements of the family members have also been recorded by the police. We have sent a dog squad and scientific team to gather evidence. Apart from this, footages of CCTV installed in neighbourhood are being examined,” said Anup Kumar Sahoo, Bhubaneswar DCP.
