Protective order sought against Oklahoma County judge

Tim Willert

A judge is being accused of assaulting a woman this week outside of a barn in Spencer.

In a petition for a protective order, Stephanie L. Blanchard accuses Oklahoma County District Judge Kendra Coleman of calling her an expletive and "striking me in the top of my head with a closed fist."

Joe White, Coleman's attorney, denied the allegations and called the petition "an effort to embarrass Judge Coleman unnecessarily."

"It did not happen, and we will pursue every remedy we have available in this matter," White said Friday.

Blanchard wrote in the petition that she was leaving a barn about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday when Coleman "pulled in and started talking to my fiance."

Blanchard wrote she approached Coleman and the fiance to "see what the conversation was about."

After a verbal altercation, Blanchard alleges the judge struck her. Blanchard alleges in the petition that Coleman pushed her, and Blanchard said she would call the police.

In the petition, Blanchard wrote: "Judge Coleman then laughed and and stated, I'm an Oklahoma County judge, it's not going to go anywhere. They will take my word all day over yours, so you're just wasting your time."

A Canadian County judge has set a hearing date for June 26 to consider the petition.

White said Blanchard has sought a victim protective order four times in Oklahoma County.

"Most VPOs are filed out of necessity," he said. "However, there are VPOs that are being sought that are filed purely in an effort to punish or harass an innocent person."
