Playing in his final golf tournament as an amateur, Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland put on a show.

Hovland shot a 4-under-par 67 on Sunday in the final round of the U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, becoming a fan favorite and drawing loud cheers from the gallery as he came down the stretch.

He finished with a four-round total of 4-under-par 280, setting the U.S. Open's 72-hole amateur record of 282, set by Jack Nicklaus in 1960.

Hovland, with OSU coach Alan Bratton as his caddie, closed his amateur career with a birdie on the final hole. The 2018 U.S. Amateur champion, Hovland was also the low amateur at the Masters in April.

He will begin his professional career Thursday at the Travelers Championship in Hartford, Connecticut.
