HONORING AMBER AND JASON

Party: Vicky and Mack Martin were hosts for Amber Martin's and Jason Strasser’s engagement party in their Nichols Hills home. The engaged couple will be married in August.

Flowers/food: Different shades of pink roses, hydrangeas and peonies were centerpieces created by Tony Foss. Debbie Davis was the caterer and sushi was by Tsubaki Sushi. Goga from Dallas provided the entertainment.

CONGRATULATIONS LELA

Event: Lela Sullivan was honored during the 33rd annual Red Earth Festival at the Cox Convention Center for her contributions to the Red Earth Board of Directors. She was inducted into the Red Earth Elder’s Council. Sullivan was recognized for more than 10 years of active service to Red Earth and significant contributions to the non-profit organization. She is past president of the Red Earth Board of Directors.

Grand Entry: Sullivan joined special dignitaries, guests and hundreds of dancers dressed in spectacular regalia as she paraded in the Red Earth dance arena during the Grand Entry of Dancers. She was presented a Native American blanket.

Other Elders: On the council are Jap Blankenship, Ken Bonds (Cherokee), Terry Brown (Cherokee), David Campbell (Cherokee), Doug Cummings, Enoch Kelly Haney (Seminole), Dee Jerome (Choctaw), Justice Yvonne Kauger, Jonna D. Kirschner, Phil Lujan (Kiowa/Taos Pueblo), Kathleen Marks, Louise Painter (Cherokee), Betty Price and Ken Vanderslice.

50th HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

Occasion: The Northwest Classen High School Class of 1969 had a 50th reunion at the Renaissance Waterford Hotel. A special performance by the 1969 members of the Cry-Slurs was given, including “The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the Northwest Classen school song. The night before, a mixer was held at Rococo’s in Northpark Mall and a golf tournament took place Friday morning at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.

Guests: Among the guests was a former history teacher, Tom Webb, who read a poem he had written. Graduates attended from as far away as Slovakia.

Décor: Purple and gold, school colors, were used in decorations. A photo background with gold streamers and a purple frame was set up.

Speakers: Reunion committee members Sue Suggs Reel, Robyn Birdwell, Ron Matlock and Ben Byers were speakers.

CLOSING PARTY

Party: The 46th annual Symphony Show House, benefiting the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and music education, closed June 16 with a party at the Show House for designers and volunteers.

Menu: The celebration featured pizza, wine and Champagne in the commons area, which was the dining room for the children at the Sunbeam Home. The former Sunbeam home houses 13 apartments, and each one was decorated by a different designer.
