Oklahoma State Game Notes

• The Basics
After last-minute heroics decided both 2018 meetings, Oklahoma State and Texas staged yet another thriller in their first matchup of 2019. Cowboy freshman Isaac Likekele scored four points down the stretch, including a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left, to seal a 61-58 win for OSU. A grand total of five points have separated these two programs in their last three meetings. Now, Oklahoma State heads to Texas looking to snap a seven-game Big 12 losing streak while also looking for its first win in Austin since 2015. The Longhorns are led by Kerwin Roach II, who averages 14.9 points per game and hit the game-winning runner with 1.2 remaining in OSU's last trip to the Erwin Center.

• On the Air
The matchup will air on CBS at Noon Central. The veteran crew of Spero Dedes and Clark Kellogg will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at cbs.com/all-access or CBS All-Access app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio XM 383.

• Cowboy Quick Hitters
• Cowboy junior Lindy Waters has scored in double-figures in every game he's played against Texas. He's averaging 14.3 points on 65.2 percent shooting and is 9-of-12 (.750) from 3-point.
• Mike Boynton and the Cowboys will wear puzzle-piece shaped pins in support of Coaches Powering Forward for Autism. Visit AutismSpeaks.org/Coaches for more information on their fight for autism awareness.
Yor Anei has 49 blocks on the season, which ranks 13th in OSU history for a single season and are the second most ever by a Cowboy freshman. He needs 16 more to tie Byron Houston's freshman record of 65 in 1988-89.
• OSU has fallen in seven straight Big 12 games, which is the longest losing streak in conference play since falling in a school record 12 straight Big 12 games during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

• Likekele Story
Isaac Likekele has 92 assists on the year and needs just five more to tie for the fifth most ever by an OSU freshman. The 92 dimes are the most by a Cowboy freshman since Jawun Evans had 108 in 2015-16, and are 47 behind Marcus Smart's freshman record of 139 set in 2012-13. Likekele is one of just two Big 12 players - and the only freshman - averaging 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, and his 3.8 assists rank fourth in the Big 12. The former Texas 5A state champion and all-state guard from Mansfield Timberview High School has a vocal leadership style to go with length and versatility. Boynton has been quick to describe Likekele as "in the mold of" Cowboy greats Tony Allen and Marcus Smart.

• The Series With The Longhorns
After splitting the season series in each of the past two years, Oklahoma State and Texas are meeting for the 95th time in a hoops rivalry that dates back to 1918. The Longhorns lead the all-time series, 50-44, after the Cowboys won the Jan. 8 matchup in Stillwater, 61-58. In Austin, UT has won the last three matchups against the Cowboys, including last year's thriller in the Erwin Center where Kerwin Roach hit the game-winning bucket with 1.2 remaining in the game.

• Staging A Thriller
The last three meetings between the Cowboys and Longhorns were decided by a total of five points. In fact, the two 2018 meetings were both decided in the final 10 seconds and both had the same final score, 65-64, with the home team winning each time. A Tavarius Shine tip-in with six seconds remaining gave OSU the win in Stillwater, while Kerwin Roach's driving bucket with 1.2 on the clock gave the Longhorns in the win in Austin. Lindy Waters was terrific in both meetings, and averaged 12.0 points on 62.5 percent shooting from the floor and 57.1 percent from 3-point.

• Leading The Longhorns
Shaka Smart is in his 10th year as a head coach and his fourth season in Austin. Smart is a veteran of 224 career victories and seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including a magical trip to the Final Four in 2011. This will be the fourth official meeting between Smart and OSU head coach Mike Boynton, although the two faced off in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament when Smart's VCU squad fell to Brad Underwood's Stephen F. Austin team, which had Boynton on staff. That day, SFA closed out regulation on a four-point play to tie the game at 67, and then out-scored VCU, 10-8, in overtime.

• Longhorns From A Distance
Since the last meeting in Stillwater, the Longhorns have gone 4-6, including Tuesday night's 71-64 loss to Kansas State in Austin, Texas. Texas is led by Kerwin Roach II, who is averaging 14.9 points per game, and freshman phenom Jaxon Hayes, who is averaging 10.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Hayes also ranks 16th nationally with 2.36 blocks per game.
