Oklahoma State Track and Field Athletes Win National Titles

August 09, 2020 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track

STILLWATER – A pair of Oklahoma State track and field athletes earned national championships over the weekend. Gabija Galvydyte won the Lithuanian national title in the 800 meters and Ariadni Adamopoulou won the Greek under-23 title in the pole vault.

For Galvydyte, this is the latest distinction in what is becoming a promising career in representing her country. She set the Lithuanian junior national record in the 400-meter hurdles and was a top-10 finisher in the event at the 2017 and 2018 world junior championships.

As for Adamopoulou, she achieved a personal best and Oklahoma State school record by vaulting 4.25m/13-11.25 this weekend. Similar to Galvydyte, Adamopoulou continues to solidify her position as a rising star for her country. Prior to this weekend's under-23 national title, she already held under-20 Greek pole vault championships from 2016, 2017 and 2018 and placed in the top-10 at the under-18 European Championships in 2016. The OSU record Adamopoulou broke was 4.11m/13-5.75, which she set at the 2020 Red Raider Invitational.
