Koraput: The first Annual Sports Meet of the Central University of Orissa started today at its Sunabeda Campus. The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Sachidananda Mahanty formally inaugurated the Sports Meet to be held from 24th to 27th February. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Mohanty congratulated the students for first time organizing such an event and said that this event will be remembered by the CUO community for the generations to come. Further, he stressed the need of discipline in sports. Apart from studies, Sports and games are important for the overall growth of the human. He urged the students to participate the event with sporting spirit.
The event was started with flag march of students belonging to fourteen departments. The welcome address was given by Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita, the Dean Students Welfare. The meeting was also chaired by the Registrar of the University Prof. Asit Kumar Das. The University will organize various sports during this four day event. It include Cricket, Football, Track & Field, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Badminton, Carrom and Chess. The Meet will be conducted under the supervision of Mr. P.K.Mohanty, former Sports Consultant of Govt. of Odisha. The Meet was attended all students, faculty and staff of the University. The District Sports Office is also assisting the University in conducting the events.
