Wood Village vows ban on single-use plastic bags

Theresas Country Feed & Pet Owner Shawn Connelly bags up items for a customer at the store in Wood Village on Wednesday, May 1.

The Wood Village City Council will pass its own ban on plastic bags if the state Legislature doesn't enact an Oregon prohibition on single-use plastic bags.

While no vote was taken at the council meeting on Thursday, April 25, all councilors voiced support for passing their own prohibition if House Bill 2509 does not become law. If passed, the house bill would ban plastic bags at stores statewide, and require retailers to charge 5 cents for paper bags. The ban would take effect Jan. 1, 2020.
