Teen Dead After Shootout In West Birmingham

Birmingham police are investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday night on 15th Way Southwest.

BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” A fatal shooting in west Birmingham β€” the city's fourth homicide since Saturday β€” is under investigation, as four people were shot in the 1000 block of 15th Way Southwest just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers reported approximately 20 shots fired, and when they arrived on the scene, one victim was dead and another had life-threatening injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital. The deceased victim has been identified as 17-year-old Cyrus Montez Abrams.

Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests at least four people were involved in a shootout, and in addition to the wounded victim found at the scene, two additional gunshot victims were admitted to the hospital later.

Detectives have not established a motive in this homicide, and no suspects are in custody.

This is the 64th homicide of 2020 in Birmingham, and the fourth since Saturday.
