Here's What You Need to Know About Curfew In Arizona

What is opened near you right now? What's closed? Here's a break down of Arizona's statewide curfew.

PHOENIX — After three consecutive nights of late night riots, millions of dollars in property damage and hundreds of arrests made across the state, Gov. Doug Ducey issued a Declaration of Emergency with a statewide curfew, within the next four hours. The curfew is from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. daily and expires on Monday, June 8 at 5 a.m. (unless it is extended).

Some Arizonans not glued to their televisions or social media feeds didn't even know about the announcement until this morning. But businesses have responded differently, which created some confusion for residents.

So azfamily.com interviewed Dan Barr, an attorney with the First Amendment Coalition for clarity.

"It really doesn't do anything you can go to work, a bar or restaurant, see family or walk your dog. Really, it's aimed at gatherings of people in parks. You can also shop if your store is open," said Barr to azfamily.com. "No restaurant has to close down no grocery store no business whatsoever has to close down. What you can't do is gather in a public place after 8 p.m."

Barr explains that the curfew is not strict, and specifically targets being able to gather in groups.

"You can't have a protest, you can't have a rally you can't arguably have like a picnic that goes on past 8 o'clock in a park."

However, the curfew does limit outdoor recreation and possibly a person's ability to go to the gym. Barr also notes that cities like Winslow and Holbrook have said they will not be enforcing the curfew at all.

"It's debatable how strictly this will be enforced," explains Barr.
