CONCORD, CA — Patch reader Irene Selk sent in this incredible photo she took May 29 in her front yard in Concord.

At first glance we thought it might be a Monarch butterfly but we checked with our friend Kathy Keatley Garvey at UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology, who said it was a Western Tiger Swallowtail, or Papilo rutulus.

Thanks so much for sharing, Irene! And thanks to Kathy for properly identifying this beautiful specimen.
