Fremont Trio October 19 Concert Benefits Castro Valley Foundation

Sophia + Irene + Allison = SIA Piano Trio Ensemble. Three young musicians present fundraiser for Castro Valley-based Jenny Lin Foundation.

The SIA Piano Trio ensemble, based in Fremont, is presenting a benefit recital to raise funds for the Jenny Lin Foundation.

The SIA Trio consists of violinist Sophia Shih, pianist Irene Geng, and cellist Allison Liu, three Irvington High School seniors and young musicians who love sharing classical music with the community. Currently coached by pianist Dr. Alison Lee, they have received 2nd place at the 2019 Great Composers Competition, 3rd place at the 2019 ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition, 3rd place at the 2019 Silicon Valley Music Competition. Additionally, they have performed in the East Bay Chamber Music Festival, in a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society, and in the Pacific Music Society’s winners’ concert at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House.

Sophia Shih has been playing violin for over 11 years and currently studies under David Chernyavsky, a San Francisco Symphony musician. She has been selected into the 2015-19 CASMEC All-State Ensembles and is currently co-concertmaster of the Golden State Youth Orchestra Senior Symphony.

Irene Geng is very grateful to have been under the tutelage of Ms. Rozina Tenenbaum since 2009. She received the Panel Honors Award from MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California).

Allison was under the guidance of cello prodigy Irene Sharp for 5 years and is now studying under Ji-hee Kim, a faculty member of Northwestern University. Allison has been selected to perform in CODA (California Orchestra Directors Association) and Mahler at Pacific 2019.

The recital is an hour-long program of famous works by Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Piazzolla, followed by a reception to allow the audience the opportunity to interact with the young performers. It is open to all ages and is a great opportunity for young children to be exposed to the chamber performance genre of classical music. Our musicians have been working diligently to prepare the repertoire, and they hope to successfully raise money for the foundation and inspire the audience with their music.

Sophia is currently a Student Coordinator with the Jenny Lin Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1994 after the brutal murder of Jenny Lin, a talented and well-loved 14 year-old girl, in Castro Valley. Through providing educational and charitable programs such as the annual six-week summer music program offered free-of-charge to eligible youths, the Foundation has connected the local community, promoted youth music education, and raised awareness for child safety across the Bay Area. Over 25 years, about 4,500 youths have participated in the Foundation's free summer music program. Find out more about Jenny Lin Foundation: https://jennylinfoundation.org
