FREMONT, CA — Ohlone Community College District President Dr. Gari Browning has announced plans to retire at the end of the 2019/20 academic year.

“After considerable soul searching and careful thought, I am announcing my retirement at the end of this academic year,” said Browning. “Ohlone is coming up on several important milestones this year, positioning the District for new leadership.”

Browning has been in the position for the past 12 years. The 2020-25 Strategic Plan will be in place by the time she leaves, the College’s new Academic Core buildings will be open, and the newest accreditation will be complete.

“I have been honored to be a partner in the great accomplishments of this very special institution,” said Browning. “The culture of evidence-based decisions and continuous improvement is inspiring. Most of all, I have appreciated the people at Ohlone. You care. And you are doing a superb job of putting students first.”

According to release from the college, Browning’s provided sound fiscal management in the midst of statewide budget cuts; resolved issues threatening the college's accreditation that she encountered on her first day as president of Ohlone; oversaw the passage of a $349 million bond; and oversaw the revitalization of the Fremont campus including the construction of three new academic buildings.
