DENVER, CO — RTD is beginning to test the new extension of the N Line, which will extend the rail's northern limit from the Eastlake-124th Station up to North Thornton-Highway 7, reports say.

KDVR reported from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, nearby residents can expect to hear horns sounding throughout the day.

In addition to the end stop at North Thornton, the expansion will include a stop at the York-144th station.

Past testing has been cause for complaints, KDVR reported, as residents raised concerns over the frequent horns blasting. But, RTD said, it's all for safety. "We want people to abide by all the signs, especially the grade crossings and to use safety and caution when traveling near the line," Lisa Trujillo with RTD said, the report says.

RTD offered these safety tips:

Do not try to touch or throw objects at the overhead power lines or climb on the power poles — if the wires are up, they are live with 25,000 volts of electricity!
Never trespass on any train track — it is illegal and dangerous.
Cross the tracks only at designated crossings, always follow safety signage and obey warning devices like flashing red lights and gate arms.
Stay alert and look both ways for a train — you may not hear them coming.
Stay off station platforms until they are open to the public.

CBS Denver reported there will be crossing guards at the N Line's intersections with Steele Street, Thornton Parkway, 100th, 112th and 124th Avenues.
