Bridgeport Fire Captain Stole $15K From Organization: Report

A Bridgeport fire captain has been arrested on charges that he stole more than $15,000 from an organization.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A fire captain is facing charges that he stole $15,000 from an organization for minority firefighters, The Hartford Courant reported. Darrien Penix, 43, was placed on leave and faces charges of second-degree larceny.

An investigation showed that Penix, a former president of the Firebird Society, used the organization's debit and credit cards on personal items such as car repairs and trips.

Penix is being paid while on leave, according to The Courant.
