Bridgeport Woman Arrested On Identity Theft Charges: Westport PD

Police said the accused was previously arrested nearly two months prior following a brief pursuit by Westport officers.

WESTPORT, CT — Police said a Bridgeport woman was arrested last week on credit card and identity theft charges nearly two months after she was arrested following a brief pursuit by Westport officers.

According to a news release, police said Daisha Haynes, 20, was arrested on Oct. 8 following a brief pursuit, during which she and another suspect had fled the suspect vehicle and were arrested in a second vehicle shortly after.

"Haynes' vehicle was found to contain a large amount of mail stolen from Westport and a number of surrounding towns," Lieutenant Jillian Cabana said in a release. "She was also found to be in possession of credit cards in the names of ten other individuals."

According to police, detectives contacted owners of the credit cards, including one victim who reported he was recently the victim of identity theft. Several fraudulent credit card accounts and two utility accounts were opened using his personal identifying information, police said.

Police said one of the fraudulent credit card accounts was associated with a Worth Street residence in Bridgeport, which was later learned to be the address of the other suspect in the Oct. 8 arrest. The phone number listed on the fraudulent account belonged to Haynes, police said.

Police said a number fraudulent transactions were made using the fraudulent credit cards. Detectives secured surveillance video from various stores which allegedly showed the suspects conducting the fraudulent transactions.

An arrest warrant application was submitted for Haynes and later approved. She was arrested on Dec. 3 at Bridgeport Court on the outstanding warrant.

Police said the accused was charged with third-degree identity theft, false statement to procure issuance of credit card, credit card theft, illegal use of credit card, fourth-degree larceny and four counts of conspiracy.
