Growing up IN Bridgeport

THE HOLLOW WAS MY AREA

Today I am 76 years old and am sitting here reflecting about how things use to be here in BRIDGEPORT BACK IN THE DAY.I have many fond memories of the many years passed but at least I have something to hold onto even though memories are non-tangible they still stand for something.I-was born and raised here started life right on LEXINGTON AVE. living with my grandparents.I sure can relate to the many changes the city has seen over the years ,some good, some not so good.LIFE as a kid of course was simple not complicated today as an adult.Somehow the city has really changed for even society has had numerous tribulations, challenge etc.

MOST-of-my memories relate to the neighborhoods I grew up in and around such as LEXINGTON AVE.where as-a kid I went to the ITALIAN CLUB run by JOE TESTO.with my dear grandfather to see all the ITALIAN guys play bacci ball. One thing that never was ever was-prejudice for everyone respected each other back then.Whatever happened to respect for our fellow man?The neighborhood seemed to cling together making a bond between us.The days of true brotherhood have vanished some how.AT one time BRIDGEPORT as a community was a different kind of city -its'hard to explain in words but at age 76 today I can honestly say I miss those-good times for BACK IN THE DAY life took on a whole different meaning.
