Renovation Promises ON Theaters

Hopefully this time it will happen

Here we go again.YET another renovation plan in the works.THIS plan will take in renovation of the former LOEWS'POLI and THE MAJESTIC THEATERS downtown BRIDGEPORT.THIS is part of a downtown revitalization effort if it does go through completion. The plan as it stands will convert the MAJESTIC THEATER into a hotel and the POLI converted to a performing arts center. These theaters have been part of our history since the 1920's.FOR 40 years they sat decaying instead of being taken care of the proper way.Projected cost is $400,000,000.$56MILLION of it earmarked for the theater/hotel transformation.

BOTH the LOEWS THEATER AND THE MAJESTIC THEATERS were the main focal point on MAIN STREET.I remember attending the movies, sitting in the lavish seats awaiting the massive curtains to open.I remember the crowds the smell of the fresh made popcorn, the elegance of the theaters-beauty of both theaters back in the day.I hope in my lifetime I see this project come to life and once again the theaters'are revised for they are truly a part of our cities'history.
