Drew University, Madison NJ

  • Drew University's Geoffrey Diehl earned the Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week from the Landmark Conference for the week ending June 2, 2019. Diehl, a junior from West Hartford, posted a perfect 4-0 for the week. He earned a victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in an 8-1 victory over Merchant Marine and won No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in a 6-3 victory against Moravian. For the season, Diehl was a dominant 14-6 at doubles, mostly at the No. 1 flight, and 5-7 at singles, primarily at second and third position. The Rangers concluded the regular season with a record of 16-7, including a 4-3 mark in conference play.

  • Eastern Connecticut State University's Social Work Program held its annual Phi Alpha Honor Society Induction ceremony on May 18 in the Betty Tipton Room of the Student Center. At the ceremony 38 new members were inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social work. Among the inductees was Brooke Barney of West Hartford, who majors in Social Work.
  • Eastern Connecticut State University's Honors Program held its senior reception on May 18 in the Johnson Room of the J. Eugene Smith Library. The event celebrated the achievements of 25 graduating students enrolled in the university's highly selective Honors Programs. Among the honorees was Catherine Falvey of West Hartford, who majors in Economics and Mathematics. Falvey was congratulated for her outstanding academic achievements and her senior thesis titled "Educational and Occupational Aspirations: A Consideration of Attainment of American Youth."

Hamilton College, Clinton NY

  • Seven West Hartford residents were named to the Dean's List at Hamilton College for the 2019 spring semester. Nicholas Becker, a rising junior majoring in Chinese and economics, is a graduate of William Hall High School. John Burt, a rising sophomore, is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall. Jacob Fischman, a May graduate, majored in mathematics at Hamilton. Madeline Pavlovich, a rising sophomore, is a graduate of Miss Porter's School. Danielle Schuman, a May graduate, majored in mathematics at Hamilton. Spencer Woolfson, a rising senior majoring in mathematics and physics, is a graduate of University High School of Science and Engineering. William Wright, a May graduate, majored in environmental studies and public policy at Hamilton. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above.

Lehigh University, Bethlehem PA

  • Caroline Kaufman of West Hartford graduated with a Master of Engineering degree with a major in Healthcare Systems Engineering from Lehigh University in spring 2019. During Commencement ceremonies on May 20, 2019, Lehigh University conferred 1,058 Bachelor's degrees, 339 Master's degrees, and 47 Doctoral degrees. Of the nearly 1,500 graduates, degree recipients came from 44 states and 61 countries and majored in 99 different disciplines.

State University of New York, Potsdam NY

  • The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named Heather Bienstock of West Hartford to the SUNY Potsdam Dean's List. Bienstock, whose major is Psychology, was among 316 students who were honored for academic excellence in the spring 2019 semester. To achieve the honor of being on the Dean's List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of between 3.25 and 3.49 in the given semester.

Tufts University, Medford MA

  • Tufts University recently announced the dean's list for the spring 2019 semester. Students from West Hartford earning dean's list honors were Chloe Amaya, Caroline Banevicius, Kamille Bernard, Catherine Ding, Caroline Gingold, Amelia Hern, Adrienne La Forte and Samuel Volpe. Dean's list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • On Saturday, May 11, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, 1,019 bachelor's degrees were awarded during the university's 151st commencement ceremony. Ryan Cudemus-Brunoli of West Hartford was awarded a bachelor of science degree in society, technology and policy, and Nathaniel Mione of West Hartford was awarded a bachelor of science degree in physics with distinction.
  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) President Laurie Leshin and Board of Trustees Chairman Jack Mollen presided over the university's 151st Commencement celebration, awarding over 850 master's and doctoral degrees at the Graduate Ceremony, held on the campus Quadrangle. Julie Grise of West Hartford was awarded a master of business administration degree, and Alhaji Bah of West Hartford was awarded a master of science degree in systems engineering.
