Obituary: Gautam Dar, 85, of Weston

Gautam was a devoted father who enjoyed playing cards and repairing things around the house.

WESTON, CT — Gautam Dar, 85, passed away peacefully after a hard struggle with cancer, among family on Saturday July 6, 2019 at home in Weston. He was the loving husband of Shanta (Kaul) Dar.

Gautam was born in Allahabad, U.P. India on November 26, 1933. The son of late Mukat and Uma Dar, he graduated from Banaras Hindu University and worked as an engineer. He was a devoted father who enjoyed playing cards and repairing things around the house. He was very well respected among colleagues, friends, and neighbors.

In addition to Shanta, his wife, he leaves behind his sister Chitra Haksar, son Arjun and his wife Shipra, two daughters Purnima and Mrinalini (Lina) and her husband Andrew Walton. He has four grandchildren, two in India Arundhati and Ansh, and Emma and Maya here in Connecticut. He will be missed by all his beloved extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norwalk Hospital in his honor.

A Shanti path (peace mantra) will be held at Wilton Hindu Mandir on Saturday July 20, 2019 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2:00 p.m. at the residence of Lina and Andrew Walton (Gautam’s daughter and son-in-law).
