Police ID Body Found in Lake Carmel as Redding Man

The body was discovered floating in the lake on Monday morning according to police. The man had been missing since Saturday.

REDDING, CT — Police have identified the body of the Redding man found dead in Lake Carmel on Saturday.

Jeremy R. Kipnis, 54, disappeared while swimming on Saturday. His wife reported him missing at 6:45 p.m., after he had told her he would be swimming at the lake and never came home.

Numerous emergency response agencies participated in the search for Kipnis in and around Lake Carmel on Saturday night, before suspending the operation at 11 p.m., according to the Carmel Fire Department.

The search resumed at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning. The lake was closed all of Sunday to swimmers.

Kipnis' body was discovered floating in the lake about 1,000 yards off the shoreline on Monday morning 5:30 a.m., according to Kent police.

Carolina Kipnis, Jeremy's wife, informed his followers on Facebook that her husband had a heart attack while in the water, "according to a preliminary autopsy report" from the Kent PD.

Kipnis was a graduate of Joel Barlow High School, and later attended Bard College. He was the founder and CEO of Kipnis Studio Standard, where he designed high-end and large-scale presentation rooms for audio and video professionals and enthusiasts.

Kipnis was also the founder of music label Epiphany Recordings Ltd., "dedicated to recording the very finest performers in the most acoustically attractive settings, providing the aural equivalent of a live concert," according to the company’s website.
