Westport Firefighters Rescue Dog, Owner Stuck In Saugatuck River
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to fire officials.
WESTPORT, CT — A dog and its owner had to be pulled by firefighters from the mud at low tide in the Saugatuck River on Tuesday afternoon, according to Westport Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.
The two were found by first responders stuck in one to two-feet of mud at about 5:30 p.m.
"Using an inflatable Rapid Deployment Craft (RDC) firefighters entered the mud to reach the victim," Meadows said in statement. "Additionally, Fire and Police Marine units were dispatched to the scene. The victim and their dog were freed from the mud and brought to safety by firefighters and police officers on shore."

Once on shore, the owner and their dog were evaluated by Westport EMS and Westport Animal Control, respectively, but no injuries were reported.
