Westport Woman Illegally Grew Marijuana At Her Home: Police

Police searched the home and found several marijuana plants.

WESTPORT, CT — A 60-year-old Westport woman was arrested on a charge of possession/cultivation of a controlled substance with intent to sell after police said she illegally grew marijuana at her home, officials announced.

Karen Schueler was arrested on Sept. 10 after Westport police detectives "received anonymous tip that marijuana was being grown outdoors" at an undisclosed residence in town.

"On three separate dates, detectives responded to the reported location to conduct surveillance in an effort to corroborate and verify the accuracy of the information as provided," wrote Westport police in a statement. "On all three of these occasions, and from a vantage point outside of the property, detectives observed a plant growing in plain view within the yard that was immediately recognizable as marijuana."

Detectives obtained a search warrant and served it on the 10th. At that time, a total of 13 "marijuana plants of varying heights were subsequently located and seized" and they tested positive for the presence of the substance.

Additionally, detectives found an undisclosed amount of marijuana throughout the home.

"During an interview, the homeowner, identified as Karen Schueler, admitted to planting three marijuana seeds and caring for the plants," police wrote.

Schueler was taken into custody and was released after posting a non-surety bond
of $5,000. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 19.
