A Message to the Community

Dear Community Members,

We are all individually and collectively reflecting on recent events and the senseless death of Mr. George Floyd. During this time, we need to recognize that we cannot allow discrimination of any form to continue to infringe upon the most basic human rights of any person, near or far. Let’s continue to embrace Windsor’s diversity, which provides a rich mosaic of viewpoints, cultures, religions, and traditions that help make us a stronger and more vibrant community.

Over the years, as a community, we have taken steps to build positive relationships. Be it through the Human Relations Commissions’ work, Community Conversations on Race, Community Conversations on Education, study circles within our schools, One Book – One Windsor or the many civic and volunteer organizations we participate in.

But we cannot and should not stop increasing our efforts to strengthen the ways we treat our neighbors, visitors and colleagues with dignity, fairness, and compassion. While we will continue to have different perspectives, varying beliefs and practices, it is so very important to take time to be open minded and to listen to our fellow residents so there is even a higher level of understanding of one another.

As a town, we are in the business of creating a context and culture that allows and inspires people to pursue their aspirations. Our organization’s vision statement is “To create an environment where dreams can come true for individuals, families and businesses.” To build such an environment, we must work to refashion our systems and approaches to ensure our individual and organizational implicit biases do not impede our community’s success.

Community building comes in various forms and requires understanding and collaboration among many individuals and groups. I’m confident that through our strength, diversity and commitment, all of us will build an even stronger, more vibrant and cohesive Windsor as we unite to move forward through our 383rd year and beyond.

All the best,

Peter Souza

Town Manager
