WASHINGTON, DC -- Weed may have been legalized in D.C., but "pop-up pot parties" that involve selling the drug remain illegal, and police have been cracking down lately, according to a report.

Fox 5 DC reports that two so-called pot parties were connected to shootings in the last few weeks, and police shut down one in Georgetown.

Although weed was legalized in the District back in 2014, it remains a complicated situation in this city. For one, the drug is still illegal on a federal level, and D.C. is where all the federal agencies are located -- making toking up here particularly risky compared to other parts of the U.S. And then there's the fact that D.C.'s law merely makes possessing a small amount of marijuana legal -- it still bans the sale of the drug, which raises the question of how exactly people who want to smoke weed are supposed to get it in the first place.

D.C. vendors have been trying to get around it by setting up tables at restaurants, bars, and even private homes, and then requesting a donation, according to the report. But police say this is the same as selling the drug, and have been raiding these parties.
